I appreciate that having so many files is less than ideal, but even designing and enforcing an archiving policy is significant work. In an effort to understand the limits of Dropbox, I subscribed for a month on a personal plan and added 65,000 files, and the syncing is bogged down on a relatively new higher-end computer. While it still performs sufficiently well at present, I suspect that the sync performance will continue to degrade as more files are added, something that I don't want to encounter during work periods. My company has something in the range of 450,000 files that we sync through Dropbox currently.
